This silhouette of the BBC Sherlock Holmes was cut from a page in the original Holmes' infamous story, "A Scandal in Bohemia". You probably know that this is the story which introduced "the woman", Irene Adler. But it was also the first of Arthur Conan Doyle's 56 Sherlock Holmes short stories to be published in The Strand Magazine.
Now I didn't really cut-up my copy of Sherlock Holmes. The relevant page was scanned and edited with software, using a multi-step masking and reverse process. The slight yellowing of the paper comes honestly from the age of my original book, printed in 1978. The resulting image was printed on special transfer paper and heat sealed to the bag.
The silhouette is based on fan art of Benedict Cumberbatch (Mr. Holmes) by the very talented Lydia Butz, used here with her permission. You can see more of her artwork here: http://girl-on-the-moon.deviantart.com/
