Wisdom Eyes Of Buddha
This symbol, of the watchful eyes of the Buddha, is to be found on stupas, in the position where the actual eyes of the Buddha would be if the building were a statue of the God himself. These eyes are painted on every side of the building, a reminder that the Buddha is able to watch over all four corners of the Earth in his omnipotence.
The Wisdom Eyes have a bindu above between them at the point of the third eye signifying enlightenment. Underneath the eys is a squiggle that looks a little like a question mark. This is the Sanskrit character for the number 1 , and symbolizes the unity all things.
The Wisdom Eyes of Buddha are so prevalent in Nepal that they have by default become a symbol of the country itself.
