I was recently at a demonstration in Berlin which was meant to bring attention to the government's increasingly oppressive policies which infringe upon citizens' personal privacy. The predominant political party in attendance was the "Piraten Partei" (german for Pirate Party). This Swedish born political movement has grown to become an officially recognized political party in several EU countries. The Pirate Party proclaims itself to be officially politically neutral and only maintains a platform which is meant to increase personal privacy and loosen up copyright laws. Be on the look out as the numbers grow in the US as well. If the thought of BIG BROTHER makes you go "aarrghh!", then show it!

Every day on my way to school I see this giant astronaut painted on the side of an apartment building. The scale of the image is amazing and I am still not convinced that it is not a stencil (very Banksyesque)! If you are a Berliner and representing Kreuzberg/F'hain you will definitely want to rock the "u-eins". This design is specifically for the those who were involved in the EART- 188A/B field class from UCSC. While I only was able to spend a bit of time with them, I was inspired by their hospitality and their extraordinary environment for studying the natural world. How many future field classes will the magnificent Bristlecones witness? ...we may never know! Thanks for having me!
