I was recently at a demonstration in Berlin which was meant to bring attention to the government's increasingly oppressive policies which infringe upon citizens' personal privacy. The predominant political party in attendance was the "Piraten Partei" (german for Pirate Party). This Swedish born political movement has grown to become an officially recognized political party in several EU countries. The Pirate Party proclaims itself to be officially politically neutral and only maintains a platform which is meant to increase personal privacy and loosen up copyright laws. Be on the look out as the numbers grow in the US as well. If the thought of BIG BROTHER makes you go "aarrghh!", then show it! Every day on my way to school I see this giant astronaut painted on the side of an apartment building. The scale of the image is amazing and I am still not convinced that it is not a stencil (very Banksyesque)! If you are a Berliner and representing Kreuzberg/F'hain you will definitely want to rock the "u-eins". But if you live elsewhere and just want to have something unique, or you are an astronaut, this will do the trick! Like the title implies, this design comes from a moment of pure 'play'! My brother was visiting and we were at a park with my girlfriend and another friend. Heike and Travis wanted to see if they could do a handstand back to back and balance themselves with their feet against each other...this design really captures that moment. Those who take themselves to seriously are apt to let others "get their goat". This design states firmly to others that a) you are one who can laugh at yourself and, b) your goat is not up for grabs! Keep your goat in your sights with this original print, based off of my first handmade stencil. It was originally printed on canvas shopping bags, hence the name. Life's not always fun and games...even if you are a clown. Parked outside a cafe near the Brandenburg Gate, this guy represents my perception of the quintessential Berliner.
