Gangster John Dillinger - Dark Shirt


    Gangster John Dillinger - 1903 - 1934 an American bank robber in the Depression-era. He was charged but not convicted of murder of an East Chicago/Indiana, police officer during a shoot-out. His gang robbed 2 dozen banks & 4 police stations & escaped jail twice. In 1933 - 34 Dillinger was the most notorious of all, among violent criminals ie Baby Face Nelson, Pretty Boy Floyd, etc. Stories of his bravado, daring & colorful personality. J. Edgar Hoover developed a sophisticated Federal Bureau of Investigation as a weapon against crime & used Dillinger & his gang as a platform to launch the FBI. Evading police for a year, he was wounded & returned to his dad's home to recover. He returned to Chicago in July '34 and met his end when police were informed of his location by a brothel owner where he sought refuge. On July 22, the police closed in on the Biograph Theater. Agents moved to arrest him as he left the theater. He pulled a weapon & attempted to flee but was shot and killed.
